Instrument & Controls (I&C) Engineer (Mid-Level)
We are currently seeking an Electrical/I&C Engineer with 5 years or more of experience to join our team based in Richland, WA.
Role Description
This position is primarily remote with occasional work in the company’s facilities and on-site locations. Occasional travel, to client sites may be required.
- Serve as discipline lead on projects, providing technical oversight and driving project success.
- Design, evaluate, and test solutions for nuclear and hazardous waste remediation, chemical processing, and commercial development projects.
- Develop P&IDs and manage all aspects of Instrumentation and Controls, including control system design, control panel design, and system testing.
- Perform design and analysis in compliance with established codes and standards (e.g., NEC, UL-508A).
- Specify, integrate, and validate hardware and software components.
- Program and configure PLCs, DCSs, and HMIs.
- Review project design inputs, outputs, and deliverables to ensure compliance with codes, standards, specifications, requirements, and contractual obligations.
- Support multiple concurrent projects and distributed project teams (WA, and other locations).
- Provide clear communication on task status, progress, technical challenges, and deadlines.
- Develop test plans and procedures and oversee execution of system testing.
- Collaborate with designers to produce detailed technical drawings and documentation.
- Consulting with and training end users on new applications.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Needed:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (EE), Electrical Engineering Technology (EET), Mechanical Engineering (ME), Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET), Chemical Engineering (ChemE), or related field.
Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience, including:
- PLC/DCS programming with platforms such as Schneider Modicon, Allen-Bradley (CompactLogix, ControlLogix), Siemens, or ABB.
- Control system implementation, design, installation, and troubleshooting.
- Serving as Lead Engineer on projects.
- Working with plant instrumentation (e.g., pressure, flow, analytical devices).
- Application and integration of Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
- Developing and maintaining industrial application programming languages.
- Creating and interpreting electrical schematics.
- Experience preparing design deliverables, resolving technical review comments, and finalizing design deliverables.

Preferred experience and qualifications:
AutoCAD or Drafting experience
Networking experience (Switches, Routers, Firewalls, TCP\IP, Ethernet/IP, Modbus, etc.
IEC-61511 Safety Instrumented System Experience.
Proven experience in hardware and software integration.
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
Knowledge and application of ASME NQA-1 quality assurance standards.
Direct experience supporting Department of Energy (DOE) projects.
Background in nuclear facilities and/or Navy Nuclear programs.
As this role supports U.S. Government contracts, candidates must be U.S. citizens and capable of obtaining a government security clearance.
